This quilt started as the scrunched up pile of scraps in the last photo. I was going to throw them away, but my mom told me not to waste them and she ironed every single one for me. I took it from there, and spent nearly three years working on it, on and off, before it was finished. By far, the longest I’ve ever spent on any quilt. The design is simple, but the journey was complicated.
My mom helped me start this quilt back when her Alzheimer’s symptoms still seemed mild. Now, three years later, her dementia has progressed so much that she had to move from home (the home I grew up in) to a memory care facility.
My mom was not a quilter, but we made this quilt together.
